Our "stock" spindles:

The following spindles are the same as our stock designs, but with the 15" turned portion shrunk to 12". 20" spindles are often used when building codes don't apply such as a "grandfathered" home, or where there is not access to a balcony for example. Our stock designs are shown here; email or call for a custom design. Used with our 2x6" Cedar rail, 2x4" subrail and skirt, and a 3" toe space, they will give you a 30" top rail height.

Another view of our "stock" spindle designs. 26" spindles, along with our 2x6" railing, 2x4" subrail and skirt, and a 3" toe space will give you a 36" top rail height. This is a very attractive setup, making 26" wood spindles our best sellers. It also meets most buidling codes. The following spindles are the same as our stock designs, but with the 15" turning stretched to 19". 32" spindles work well with our 2x6" railing, 2x4" subrail and skirt, and a 3" toe space for a 42" handrail height. This higher height is sometimes required by building codes, or families just looking for a little extra safety on a balcony. 6x40" A22 Revival Douglas Fir Spindle / Post. You will not find this size and quality elsewhere. These 6x6" Douglas Fir wood spindles (often called newels) weigh in at 20 pounds a piece and have to be held to be truly appreciated. If your looking for an extra large look such as this used on a front porch in Big Fork, MT, let us know and we can make almost any length and design you desire. 6x52" C19 Tuscan Douglas Fir turned wood newel post. These were used on a porch with our 4x32" C19 Tuscan Douglas Fir spindles. They were fitted with 2x8x8" Cedar post caps and 6" Douglas Fir balltops for the ultimate robust Victorian look. Shown here with a 2x7"A4 Revival Port Orford Cedar spindle for size comparison. (Did you notice it?) We can help with your custom project, no matter how big or small.
4x30" Custom Cedar porch spindles for a restoration project in Greenwich, CT. This person had an existing wood balustrade around the stairs and wanted the porch spindles (often called balusters or pickets) to match. He sent us a picture of the balustrade and, after a making few adjustments for the size difference, we were able to match the design.

4x32" E21 Western Red Cedar porch spindles. Skiing in Vail, CO anytime soon? Swing by the "Arrabelle at Vail Square" resort and you'll see these very spindles adorning the luxury hotel.
Accent spindles are often used as part of a spandrel. Spandrels are used to decorate the eves of the porch overhang. They are often the final touch to a porch restoration. Shown below is a 2x7" custom Port Orford Cedar accent spindle, and our 4x10 A6 Revival Redwood accent spindle.
A 6x32" custom Hickory newel post. Unlike most of our wood spindles (or balusters as they are often called), this one was laminated from smaller boards. Very interesting color result. 
A custom interior balustrade job right here in Helena, MT using Hard Maple wood. The newel posts are 4 1/4 x 40", and the balusters are 2 1/4 x 40". A very contemporary design. Sometimes less is more.
Spindle Restoration: This customer was only replacing about half of the wood spindles on his porch and therefore needed an exact replica. They are 3 15/16" x 14 1/2" net custom turned Douglas Fir porch spindles.
